Rori Knott, LCPC is a therapist specializing in individual, couples and family therapy.
She maintains a private practice in Bangor, Maine. Rori began working in the field of mental health after graduating from the University of Maine. Her initial foray was teaching adults who were diagnosed with mental health and developmental disabilities. Those years instilled Rori with a commitment to serve and grow others, she then completed her graduate degree at Goddard College.
Rori has worked in the mental health field for over 20 years with several years experience in Substance Abuse and Co-occurring Disorders i.e. Depression and Anxiety. This has led to a deeper understanding of trauma and it's impact on individuals. She has noticed more individuals seeking support to manage stress and conflict in their lives. Rori offers relief through a variety of approaches found to be quite effective; mindfulness, increased body awareness, DBT, and CBT.
A part of Rori's work is helping individuals reconnect with their bodies. Through observation and inquiry in her practice people have shared of their own body detachment. This disconnection or detachment from our bodies is exhibited in a variety of ways, some of which are; weight gain/loss, food choices, pain control, or substance use. Individuals with trauma exposure have often experienced one or several of the items listed. Beginning to identify how mental health and the body interplay together can be powerful and illuminating for many.
Rori has continued her education with experts in the field such as Bessel Van der Kolk, Esther Perel, and Brene Brown. Determining the best approach to serve your needs will be a collaborative approach, acknowledging the full spectrum of how your life has been impacted. She places great value on recognizing what has worked in individuals lives and building on those strengths.
